One of the main functions of the SLFS is the organisation of Sri Lankan events. These events serve both to bring the community together and introduce children and other New Zealanders to the unique traditions of Sri Lankan culture. The events range from the formal, such as the New Year’s (Avurudu Asiriya) Celebration, which showcases the traditional songs and dances of Sri Lanka, to informal gatherings where families can gather and enjoy each others’ company. These events are a great way for children and adults to learn the traditional dances and customs of Sri Lanka, and provides a stage for children to gain confidence in their skills.

Events such as the Avurudu Asiriya provide an opportunity to promote Sri Lankan culture and expose the younger generation to the traditional dances and customs of Sri Lanka.

The Independence Day Show is an annual event in which we revisit Sri Lankan history and educate our children about Sri Lanka’s past.

One of the key services the society provides is the organisation of events for children to immerse themselves in Sri Lankan culture. The Avurudu Sports Day is a way for children to learn about traditional sports, while the Kits Art and Music Day is a great introduction to Sri Lankan art.

Last but not least, the society prides itself on producing events for the entertainment of all, with events such as the Christmas Party and the Ridma Rayak, a music night for the adults.
